To access any of the Specialist dental services at Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne you need a referral:
- Integrated Special Needs
- Domiciliary
- Endodontics
- Oral Maxillofacial Surgery
- Oral Medicine
- Orthodontics
- Paediatric Dentistry
- Periodontics
- Prosthodontics
- Dental Teaching Clinic
The referral needs to be from:
- oral health practitioner
- health practitioner
- specialist department at RDHM
Completion of the referral may present difficulties for non-dental personnel. You may need to be referred to a local community dental clinic first to get detailed dental information.
What happens when you receive my Referral?
When we receive your referral, we review it to ensure we have all the information needed.
How long does it take to process a Referral?
It takes up to six weeks to process a referral.
What happens if the Referral is not complete?
Not providing the information required by the relevant clinic will cause a delay. The referral will be sent back to your health professional asking them to provide more information.

What happens when my Referral is accepted?
When we accept your referral, you will receive a confirmation letter. We will add you to the appropriate waiting list.
Will I need to attend a Screening Consultation?
You may need to attend a screening appointment or exam.
