General dental care

General dental care includes:

  • check up and examinations
  • scale and clean
  • extraction of teeth
  • fillings
  • x- rays
  • fissure Sealants
  • oral health advice
  • root canal treatment

Emergency dental care

A dental emergency could be:

  • swelling of the face, especially if it is hard to breathe
  • trauma to the face, especially if it is hard to breathe
  • bleeding from the mouth that will not stop
  • an ulcer or sore in your mouth that has not healed for 2 weeks or more
  • severe mouth pain that keeps you awake
  • tooth fracture, an opening the tooth’s nerve
  • significant dental trauma for example your tooth has been knocked out

Speciality dental care

There are no waiting lists for priority groups for general dental care. You will get the next available appointment. Note: There is a high demand for specialist dental care you may have to wait some months for an appointment.

Specialty dental care can be:

  • root canal treatment
  • treatment of diseases of the lips, cheeks, tongue and jaw
  • braces to straighten teeth
  • treatment of gum disease
  • dentures crowns and bridges
  • surgical procedures on teeth, mouth or jaw
  • dental services for people with Intellectual and physical disabilities
  • dental treatment for children with complex dental, medical and other needs

Dental teaching clinics

If you have a valid Health care or Pensioner Concession Card in some cases, treatment can be provided by dental or oral health students at teaching clinics throughout Victoria. This service is available during University semesters and can take a bit longer. Treatment here is free. All students are under the supervision of qualified oral health professionals.
