Good dental health habits
We've pulled together some ideas and resources to support young children (birth to 5 years) learn about teeth, the important jobs they do, and how to take care of them. We've aligned them key Quality Areas, Practices and Principles in the NQS and VEYDLF to promote quality practice.
We think an important first step is to help children become more familiar with and develop a more positive attitude towards their teeth and brushing. We reframe brushing teeth as a fun activity that kids can enjoy with fun and engaging songs, picture books, videos, and play-based activities. We also share practical tips and downloadable resources to help families encourage healthy habits at home.
Just like we help children learn to wash their hands and cover coughs to keep from spreading germs, we can help children learn that we brush our teeth to keep them clean and healthy — to set up a lifetime of bright healthy smiles.
