Learning methods

The delivery of the course will occur across a 12-month period using a combination of on-the-job and off-the-job learning experiences supported by blended learning tools.

The program delivery will have a strong focus on experiential and social learning and will include the following approaches:

  • mentoring
  • knowledge sharing and peer support through communities of practice
  • workshops
  • information and examples presented by respected subject-matter experts
  • case studies
  • applied ‘real world’ learning opportunities
  • applying research and learning from evidence-based practice and
  • literature from peer reviewed journals.

Assessment strategies

Assessment methods will be flexible, valid, reliable and fair.

Participants will be required to meet all the criteria to satisfactorily complete the course.

A variety of assessment methods and evidence gathering techniques may be used such as:

  • participation as a mentee in mentoring relationship
  • journal of reflection
  • case studies
  • role plays
  • workplace project
  • oral presentations and
  • poster presentations.

The assessment for POHCLP806 Apply evidence to improve clinical practice is the major assessment piece for the CLiPOHP. It is a workplace project that integrates and consolidates learning and assessment activities from across the modules within the course.

Course support

Participants will be mentored throughout the course by a senior clinician with experience in their area of interest and/or their personal learning needs, and who has undertaken an orientation program provided by DHSV.

The course adopts a mentoring approach using a developmental model with one-to-one, group and e-mentoring models employed as appropriate to particular module outcomes and the needs of the learner.

A mentor/mentee matching activity will occur as part of the course orientation workshop. It is anticipated that one-to-one mentoring arrangements will involve monthly contact preferably in person, but may also utilise communication technology where distance is a factor.

An alumni program will be established for participants who have successfully completed the course. This will provide a forum for ongoing learning and development, knowledge transfer, and support for the continuation of projects. Members of the alumni group will be encouraged to present at regional forums and the annual DHSV Public Oral Health Innovations Conference. Feedback from alumni will be used to inform continuous improvement of the CLiPOHP course.
