Preventing tooth decay during treatment

Avoid foods and drinks with high sugar as when braces are placed, more plaque builds on your teeth. More plaque in combination with between meal snacks of most foods and drinks can lead to cavities.

Fruit juices and soft drinks are OK with a meal. Between meals, only water or milk are healthy.

Sports drinks taken when you are dehydrated can promote rapid decay.
