How does orthodontic treatment work?
Orthodontic appliances are placed on the teeth to move them into a desired position; the brackets on your teeth act as handles to enable the wires and elastics to apply pressure which causes the bone around your teeth to be removed and allows tooth movement. New bone forms behind the moved tooth. This microscopic process is quite slow so it takes a long time for teeth to move.
