Connecting at the conference

It was fantastic to see so many of you at the DHSV Public Oral Health Conference! Oral health professionals from across the state came together to pave the way forward.

What an incredible day at the DHSV Public Oral Health Conference! On Tuesday 13 August, more than 500 hundred oral health professionals came together for a packed program, and we kicked off with the brilliant MC Emily Rice.

We were truly inspired by our keynote speaker, Dr Ben Bravery, who shared his powerful personal journey and reminded us of the critical role compassion plays in public healthcare.

The breakout sessions were equally impressive, showcasing thought-provoking presentations from leaders in the field. Conference participants selected a topic of interest from research, advances in clinical practice, or prevention and equity.

We had a fantastic group of speakers who generously shared their in-depth knowledge with the enthusiastic audience in the breakout sessions.

Conference delegates took the opportunity to network and mingle over a delicious lunch before heading into the afternoon sessions. Nicole Rendell from the World Health Organisation joined us via video to explore 'The World Health Organisation Oral Health Programme and the Global Oral Health Policy Agenda', which was followed by a Q&A.

Director School Dental Plan Implementation Melanie van Altena was joined by Oral Health Manager at EACH, Raelene Tie, to celebrate the success of Smile Squad and highlight the innovative practice underway at EACH.

DHSV Chief Executive Officer Sue McKee led a panel exploring how value-based healthcare focuses us on the needs of the patient. The panel featured Director of Primary Care – RDHM Dushy Umakhanthan, Merri Health Manager, Dental Services, Aged and Primary Care Jonathan Teoh, and DHSV Consumer Advisor Member Sandra Anderson.

Prior to the conference, we also provided the opportunity for participants to submit a poster presenting the breadth of oral health research and policy effort to improve oral health in Victoria and across Australia. The posters had a steady stream of interested visitors throughout the day.

Two lucky conference participants received the door prizes from platinum sponsor Ivoclar. Congratulations to Dr Richman from Link Health and Community who took out the 1st prize and Dr Battula from Latrobe Community Health who won 2nd prize!

A massive thank you to all of our sponsors on the day for engaging with our participants and showcasing your services. Thanks toL
